In this article, Yehan Weerasuriya reflects on his academic journey at UCSC one year after graduating. Inspired by his grandfather who ran an accounting firm in Sri Lanka, Weerasuriya pursued a B.A. in business management economics with a concentration in accounting and finance at UC Santa Cruz. He currently works at PwC as a consultant and associate in the Capital Markets and Accounting Advisory group, working on client projects and internal work.
Weerasuriya credits his academic success to the support he received from the Accounting Department at UCSC, particularly from Lecturer Kevin Jones. He was involved in the professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi, where he served in various leadership roles that helped develop his organizational and interpersonal skills. Additionally, he worked as a peer coach in the Career Success Department, gaining practical experience in communication and professional development.
Weerasuriya completed multiple internships, including one at PwC for the Capital Markets and Accounting Advisory Services, which expanded his network within the accounting field. He now aims to expand his professional goals by pursuing investment banking or private equity in the future, while remaining committed to contributing meaningfully in the field of accounting and finance.
