  • National Pipeline Advisory Group (NPAG) seeks feedback on potential talent pipeline solutions for the accounting profession.
  • Six major solution themes identified: Telling a better story, Drawing in more underrepresented minorities, Making the educational experience more engaging, Reducing the time and cost of education, Providing better support to CPA exam takers, Transforming cultures and business models.

Since July 2023, the National Pipeline Advisory Group (NPAG), consisting of 22 stakeholders from the accounting profession, has been working to address the talent pipeline shortage and increase interest in accounting careers. The group has identified six major themes for potential solutions, including creating a more engaging educational experience and reducing education costs.

One of the key findings of NPAG is the need for all individuals in the profession to engage in discussions about the talent pipeline and prioritize strategies to minimize talent leaks. This includes telling a better story about the benefits of accounting, attracting more underrepresented minorities, and transforming business models to create a more appealing employment experience.

Two surveys are currently open to gather feedback from individuals in the accounting profession, including students and early-career professionals. NPAG is focused on receiving as much input as possible to ensure the success of their initiatives. The group hopes to share the draft report on the survey results with the American Institute of CPAs Council in May.
